ABOUT SLOVENIAN ISTRIA
Day hike in Slovenian Istria, in the land of wine, truffles and olive oil, with magnificent views along the way of Gulf Of Koper and Istrian hinterland. Stop at the cultural heritage sites and enjoy in culinary delights of the region. Admire beautiful nature, spent your holidays actively and get to know Slovenian culture. The trail is suitable for all hikers in all seasons, guided by a local guide who will tell you a lot of interesting stories. At the end of the hike continue to the coast and see the oldest town on Slovenian coast, the beautiful town of Piran. There wander through the narrow streets, admire Venetian architecture and enjoy a well deserved Mediterranean meal with a view over the sea. For the cherry on the top of the cake, take a swim in the Adriatic Sea.
DESCRIPTION OF THE TOUR
We will start hiking close to one of the oldest churches in Slovenia, The Church of Holy Trinity in Hrastovlje, which dates back to the 15 century. Church won its reputation because of the very well known frescoes of Danse Macabre, which is on the list of world cultural heritage sites. It has an outstanding image also from the outside. We will continue our walk through the picturesque village of Hrastovlje and stop at two local galleries and a very old Istrian house, built in traditional architecture of the region. A little bit further from the village we pass an old defense tower and climb up to the Karst edge – a natural limestone wall, which divides Karts and Istria. From there we get a perfect view of whole Istria, the Adriatic Sea, and Trieste and Koper towns. The trail will then lead us through the neighboring villages of Zazid and Zanigrad, where we will stop to see local heritage sites and admire abandoned villages. In the end, we finish our circle route in Hrastovlje.

After the hike we will drive to the coast, to see the beautiful town of Piran, surrounded with a wall and positioned on a small peninsula, full of narrow streets and Mediterranean architecture. A perfect place to wander around, try some local cuisine and enjoy in a beautiful view.
