Vipava Valley – Nanos plateau – Via ferrata climb – Furlanova mountain hut – local wine and prosciutto tasting
ABOUT VIPAVA VALLEY
Vipava Valley is a beautiful valley, from one side secured with majestic Nanos plateau and from other side overlooking the Mediterranean sea. It is full of vineyards, orchards, and limestone. You will find small remote villages that lie on top of the hills, made out of stone that look like guardians of karst landscape. They wait for a traveler, there you will never stay thirsty or hungry. Locals will be always happy to pour you a glass of local Teran wine or give you a plate of prosciutto with cheese to try. And believe us, it’s worth trying it!
But there is even more to this valley, that was announced by Lonely Planet as one of the best top 10 destinations in Europe in 2018. It offers lots of outdoor activities. It is one of the best hiking places in Slovenia as you can go hiking there also during winter time in spring and in autumn, whereas other parts of Slovenia might be too cold already.

DESCRIPTION OF THE HIKE
We will start in a small village Gradišče on 250 m in the heart of Vipava valley. From there we will ascend fully equipped with the harness, helmet, and self-belaying system. For easier progression, there is wire rope. The route has amazing views all the way up of Vipava valley and the Adriatic Sea. The route is suitable also for those who don’t have any experience with this type of climbing. Once we rich the ridge we stop with via ferrata climbing and continue walking for approx. 1 hour towards the Furlan mountain hut at 900 m. At the hut, we try some traditional Slovenian mountain food and after a break than a return on a different, easier route towards the point where we have started.

After a successful climb, there is nothing better than a tasty local meal, we will stop in a nearby Vipava town and try some Teran wine and prosciutto.
