Hike from the emerald Soča river to the crystal clear waters of Bohinj lake. This trek takes us to the peak of one of Slovenias most iconic mountains – Mt. Krn (2244m). Past a beautiful Alpine lake and across Bogatin saddle to Komna plateau. We finish the trek with a refreshing swim in lake Bohinj. This trek was designed especially with families in mind, the walking days are not too long and the trail is relatively easy.

Itinerary

Day 1Village Krn (990m) - Batognica (2164m) - Škrbina (2058m) - Gomiščkovo Hut (2182m) - Krn (2244m)

Total distance: 13km

Walking time: 5h

Ascent: 1400m, Descent: 150m

 

Day 1 is a continuous climb that starts gradually and gets steeper until we reach the Lužnica valley. The path leads past Luzhnishko Lake to the top of Batognica, where we can see the remnants of the World War I. We walk past caves and tunnels, go down to Škrbina and see one of the caves. After a short climb, we reach the Gomiščko shelter. We go to the top of Krna in the evening. The location is spectacular, the views from the terrace extend all the way to the Adriatic Sea on clear days. We can see the sunset right from the top of Krna, as the mountain faces SW. The panorama to the east is also getting from the top, we enjoy the views down towards Lake Krnsk and the rest of the area where we will be walking in the following days. After returning to the hut, we have a traditional Slovenian mountain dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2Gomiščkovo Hut - Krn Lake (1399m) - Bogatin Saddle (1815m) - Dom na Komni (1520m)

 Ascent: 699m, Descent: 1361m

After breakfast we start with our descent towards the crystal clear waters of lake Krn, we have a short break there to relax and observe its beautiful scenery. After we start with a climb towards Bogatin saddle, the area over there is famous for its alpine flora. Maybe we even get an opportunity to see an ibex or a family of chamois. On the way, we see bunkers and trenches from the First World War. The route passes the remains of an old Italian barracks. From the saddle we start descending to our final destination of the day Dom na Komni hut, situated on the ledge above lake Bohinj we get some spectacular views towards it. Here we have dinner and spend the night. 

Day 3Dom na Komni - Savica waterfall (894m) - Bohinj Lake (526m)

Total distance: 9km

Walking time: 3h

Ascent: 270m, Descent: 1258m

After breakfast we start with our descent which takes us along an old 1st world war military trail. On our way we stop and see Savica waterfall known to be one of the nicest in Slovenia. We continue towards the biggest natural lake of the country – lake Bohinj where we find a nice spot on the shore and enjoy a refreshing and well deserved swim.

What equipment do I need for climbing Mount Triglav?

Summer: You will definitely need good (ankle high) hiking boots, helmet, self-loading Via Ferrata kit, trekking poles to support your knees, day backpack, a lot of water, some snacks and a light jacket. If you don’t have Via Ferrata kit equipment, you can rent it with us.

Winter: You will definitely need good hiking boots, helmet, self-loading Via Ferrata kit, trekking poles to support your knees, day backpack, a lot of water, some food, a warm jacket and sleeping bag. And as well crampons, ice axe and snow leggings. If you don’t have winter ascent equipment, you can rent it with us.

What equipment do I need for trekking in Triglav National Park?

You will definitely need good (ankle high) hiking boots, trekking poles to support your knees, day backpack, a lot of water, some snacks and a light jacket.

Is it possible to climb Mt Triglav in one day?

To climb it in one day you have to be in excellent fitness condition, as it takes around 6h 30min to ascent the top and then descent on the same day. But you will definitely get more authentic experience with 2 days in the mountains.

Where there be snow?

Winter in the Alps is usually longer and snow could fall from November to mid-May. So you can even expect snow till end of June. But it all depends on how much snow falls and how warm the spring is. 

Is food included with the tour?

Food on our tours is not included, because of the variety of tastes of our participants. Of course, the food is available in any mountain hut and whatever is on the menu is always good.

Is there a tour where I can join others?

In addition to our private tours, we also provide join the group tours. Every Friday for a 1-day hike in Triglav National Park and every Tuesday a 2-day tour to climb Mount Triglav. However, this is only in summertime.

Is the tour still on in case of rain?

That all depends on the weather forecast. If there is just some light rain we will still go on a tour. However, if its gonna be heavy rain, we will try to move your tour to another most convenient date. In either case, we constantly check weather forthcast so we can arrange the best trip for you.
